Riverhouse

This property is special.. It’s proximity to the Salmon Falls river (which is tidal) is so close that you feel nature and its beauty everywhere. This property is a unique architect designed home that offers a private and secluded stay. It is an oasis of nature. The house blends the vernacular of historic and modern.

It is more intimate and personal than hotels, and offers the perspective of the owner in discovering the local area.

The area around this property is primarily land trust. There is a wonderful state park and historic home called the Hamilton House. South Berwick is home to Sarah Orme Jewitt and the oldest private school in Maine. Nearby, there are several farm to table restaurants that have been highly reviewed in the Boston papers.

Reviews

Let our guests do the talking.

My cousin and I spent two wonderful days here, while exploring the Maine and New Hampshire coastal towns (Portsmouth was our favourite with its historic buildings). Mark and Mathilde were our hosts at the Riverhouse and made us feel very welcome. But the highlight had to be Kit, their very friendly dog with a laid back personality.
We’re so glad that we didn’t book a place on the coast, where all the towns were very busy and bustling with tourists. The serene calm of the Riverhouse property was the perfect place to relax at the end of the day.

Riverhouse was perfect for a few days up in Maine. My partner and I booked the guest room for a few nights, and Mark and Mathilde (and their beautiful Bernese mountain dogs!) made the stay unforgettable! If you’re looking for a cozy retreat in someone else’s gorgeous home, this is definitely the place. Mark’s restaurant recommendations were sublime, and we had wonderful breakfast conversations with him before heading out for the day. Highly recommend!
